Community: Arbor Vitae
One of the oldest towns in Vilas County, Arbor Vitae was established in the 1890s (even before Vilas County was incorporated), and the area’s logging history dates to the early 1800s. Arbor Vitae, located in far southern Vilas County, is part of Wisconsin’s Lakeland area, which is home to one of the highest concentrations of fresh water on the planet, meaning its an ideal spot for fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and other aquatic activities. In addition to lakes and trails, Arbor Vitae is also home to several restaurants, resorts, campgrounds, and other lodging properties.
