Community: Winchester
Winchester, located in the northwest corner of Vilas County, encompasses over 34,000 acres and 63 lakes. Almost 80% of the town’s area is wooded with more than 6,000 acres of public land as part of the Northern-Highland American Legion State Forest, a vast woodland that stretches across Wisconsin’s Northwoods. A small community most of the year, our area is perfect for summer activities like fishing, boating, biking and hiking. Winter sports such as skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing are also popular in our corner of northern Wisconsin. Our newly renovated school building houses a community area, the Winchester Public Library and an excellent history display of the area.
