The Vilas County Summer ATV/UTV Trail System will officially open for the season at 8am Friday, May 2.
The trail system consists of 39.5 miles of trails, 12.7 miles of troutes, and many more road route miles. Note that all county highways—including County Highways A, B, C, E, G, H (town of Boulder Junction only), J, K, M, N, O, P, S, and W—are open to ATV/UTV traffic year-round, except for those in the town of Lac du Flambeau.
Numbered highways are not open for ATV use with some minor exceptions, and not all town roads are open to ATV/UTV traffic—check with local municipalities or ATV clubs in the area to verify which roads can be used.
Thanks to Vilas County’s ATV Clubs, including the Lakeland ATV Club, the Landover ATV Club, the Sayner Barnstormers, and the St. Germain ATV Club for their hard work in getting the trails ready for the season.
ATV and UTV riders should obey all traffic laws when riding in Vilas County:
- Stay to the right and travel in the direction of traffic
- Stay on the paved portion of these roads
- Ride single file
- ATV/UTV speed limit is 35 mph
- Put your headlights on for safety and dim your lights when traffic approaches from the other direction after dark
