TROUT LAKE, WI: UW Madison’s Trout Lake Station is a lake ecology research station on the South side of Trout Lake in Vilas County. Every summer they open their doors to the public and invite them to explore the science happening right in their own backyard.

What: Trout Lake Station Open House, free and open to the public
Where: 3110 Trout Lake Station, Boulder Junction, WI 54512
When: July 31st, 2026, 1-5 PM

“We are so excited for our students and crews to share stories of their experiences and research all about WATER!” said Gretchen Gerrish, station director. “Nearly everyone in this state lives within some distance of a lake. Whether you fish every weekend or visit once a summer, lake science is truly a science for everyone.”

This year, we’ll have booths about invasive plants, fishing technology, water quality, and so much more! Our summer interns and station scientists are coming up with fun, creative activities and are picking out ice cream flavors and crafts. The event is free and open to the public; we hope to see you there! Visit our website to learn more.
