We asked Vilas County fans what they love about fall in the Northwoods. Here's what they said.

North Lakeland Discovery Center is a spot for paddling in Vilas County.

Here’s how our fans answered the question, “What is your favorite thing about Vilas County in the fall?”

  • Mary Jo Kohlhoff, Portage, WI: “I loved going to my parent’s house on South Turtle Lake in Winchester. The fall colors were spectacular whether I was in a boat or on the deck. The most important thing I had to do was help my mother pick up “the best” leaves for her crafts for the Women’s Club. It was wonderful going fishing with my parents because they seemed to know exactly where to catch the fish! Anticipation was the word on the drive to Vilas County! I miss those days.”
  • Kathy Suba, Westchester, IL: “The weather, the fishing, the sunsets. What’s NOT to like??”
  • Sean Lesnjak, Milwaukee: “Stepping onto the patio on a fall evening. Glancing through the trees on another beautiful late September sunset. Does it get better than that?”
  • John Link, Chicago: “Musky fishing on a crisp fall day is my favorite thing in the world.”
  • Jana Vorce, San Diego: “The changing leaves, pontoon boat rides to see the view from the water, warm sweaters, fires in the fireplace & hot chocolate. Laying in a hammock taking in the fresh air. Pure bliss.”
  • Rorey Kroening, West Allis: “Canoeing on White Fish Lake with my buddy Hondo.”
