For generations, Vilas County has been a destination for family fun in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. From fun parks to waterski shows, the county is filled with entertaining attractions that welcome families. Here are some Vilas County attractions to put on your to-do list.

Chain Skimmers Water Ski Team

For more than five decades, the Chain Skimmers have been entertaining Northwoods crowds with their amazing waterski performances. Grab a seat on the shore of Lake Pleasant in Conover to take in the action, which includes tricks, jumps, flips and other incredible waterskiing stunts. The skiers perform throughout the summer: most Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings at 7pm.

Eagle River Golf Course

This 18-hole course on the shores of Yellow Birch Lake just north of downtown Eagle River is one of the most beautiful courses in the Northwoods and provides a challenge to golfers of all skill levels. The course also features a grass tee range, practice green, chipping area, and practice bunker. It’s also home to the Albatross grill, where you can grab burgers, sandwiches, wraps and cold drinks.

North Lakeland Discovery Center

Learn about the natural wonders of the Northwoods or simply explore the trails at the North Lakeland Discovery Center in Manitowish Waters. The center offers educational courses throughout the year that cover everything from birdwatching to crafts to outdoor recreation. North Lakeland Discovery Center is also home to a 12-mile trail system that’s open to everyone from dawn to dusk year-round. In winter, trails are tracked for classic skiing and snowshoes are available on site.

Plum Lake Golf Course

This historic course in Sayner has been named the best 9-hole course in the state and offers fun play for all ages among a beautiful Northwoods backdrop. Spend the morning or afternoon driving, chipping and putting across the scenic par-36 course, then sit back and relax in the clubhouse (which dates to the 1920s) with its wraparound porch and hand-hewn chairs.
