Several portions of the Vilas County snowmobile trail system will close at 8am on Thursday, March 26, including the Arbor Vitae trail system, the Conover trail system, the Eagle River trail system, the Lac du Flambeau trail system, the Manitowish Waters trail system, the Phelps trail system, and the St. Germain trail system.
The only trail systems that will remain open are the Boulder Junction trail system, the Land O’ Lakes trail system, the Presque Isle trail system, and the Sayner trail system.
Recent warm weather has taken a toll on the trails, with many areas showing bare ground and pavement. The Vilas County Snowmobile Ordinance prohibits snowmobiles from operating on the trail system when closed. Snowmobilers may encounter gated sections where systems are closed and are asked to only travel on open trails.
