Scenic Ride: Eastern Route
Discover the eastern side of Vilas County and the communities near northern Wisconsin’s border with Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on this 84-mile route. Riders can start in Eagle River in southeastern Vilas County and take State Highway 17 northeast to Phelps before following County Highway E and State Highway 32 back to Land O’ Lakes on the Wisconsin-Michigan border. (An alternate route follows unimproved pavement for more than 10 miles and follows the southern shoreline of Lac Vieux Desert, the source of the Wisconsin River.) Continue west on County Highway B, head south on County Highway S, then meet up with U.S. Highway 45 before heading back to Eagle River via Conover. Additional route segments include a ride on County Highway K, which skirts the north shore of North Twin Lake.
